Job Summary

As a new Cisco Network Infrastructure Engineer you will provide network engineering services to the statewide enterprise network and all State agencies. You will act as a subject matter expert providing design, implementation, and support of highly complex networks including LAN/WAN, Wireless, data center, and cloud technologies.

The position acts as the technical lead for the planning, testing, administrating, and implementing network solutions and establishing best practice standards. The position makes decisions and provides detailed input that affects the State core network and agencies' network infrastructure. The position performs network architecture design and implementation which impact all supported agencies and their locations across Colorado.

The position establishes network technology standards to be used within the State network infrastructure. The position interfaces with network operations, security operations, and telecommunications teams to provide network services to customers. The position supports the strategic interface to other entities including state, federal, and local agencies; private sector groups; and the public.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, administer, and deploy mission critical network hardware and applications to provide network as a service (NaaS) for State agencies to include wireless, software defined access and wide area networks.
• Maximize network performance by monitoring, troubleshooting network problems, addressing security concerns, responding to and resolving outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with internal and external partners on network optimization.
• Provide subject matter expertise on network design, solution, and implementation for new network projects.
• Analyze performance and comparative costs of products to determine the most cost effective solution.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to leadership.
• Partner with customers and vendors to clarify rationale for technical decisions and concepts so they can understand the basis for the decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Five years experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, including: configuring Cisco based routing and switching solutions for local campus and Wide Area Network; leading and planning network projects; Cisco DNAC; network monitoring applications; developing network topologies.
• Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year?for?year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
• Training or certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years professional engineering experience in network design, architecture, and implementation.
• Cisco Professional and/or Expert certifications such as CCNP or CCIE.
• Professional networking experience with wireless technologies.
• Professional networking experience with Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) application.
• Professional networking experience with Cisco DNAC.
• Professional networking experience with data center technologies.
• Professional networking experience with Software?Defined Access technologies.
• Professional networking experience with Software?Defined WAN (SDWAN).
• Professional networking experience with scripting and automation.
• Understanding Agile/Scrum Methodologies or having Agile/Scrum Methodologies certification(s).

Term Limited Position

This position is term limited with an anticipated end date of approximately one year from the date of hire. It is eligible for State employee benefits and may be extended as the situation warrants.

Travel Requirement

These roles will require occasional travel within the state to areas outside of your assigned geographic location. Travel will be planned in advance and expenses reimbursed per existing policies and procedures.

Conditions of Employment

Pre?employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre?employment drug test. The position may require on?call duties as needed and travel across the state as required.

Supplemental Information

All remote work must be performed in Colorado. Candidates from out of state will also be considered, but the selected candidate must relocate and reside in Colorado on the first day of the new position.
