The Department of Community Health is seeking an experienced Accountant 4 for the Revenue Section of the Division of Financial Management. This role will be responsible for performing professional accounting duties associated with analyzing, reconciling, and recording financial data. Financial Services (Accounting) is responsible for making payments to providers, vendors and employees along with subsequent preparation of financial reports to ensure receipt of Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids (SCHIP), and other federal funding. Financial Services prepares annual financial statements for the agency and ensures that the department complies with generally accepted accounting principles (GAA).

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare Benefits Draw on a weekly basis
  • Prepare transfers weekly
  • Accounts Receivable Setup - Creating, applying cash, and tracking outstanding invoices
  • Record various revenue collection deposits - Drug Rebates, recoupment payments, and miscellaneous
  • Analyze and validate recorded transactions timely
  • Research various transactions timely
  • Review and monitor daily activity in the bank accounts
  • Record deposits within one business day
  • Record adjusting transactions timely
  • Prepare Manual Expenditure Payments (MEP) as requested
  • Maintain various spreadsheets for tracking activity
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting and three (3) years of professional accounting job-related experience; or Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Accountant 3 (FIP022) or equivalent position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates, who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above possess the following: Previous work in governmental accounting or working in revenue department with strong knowledge of preparing federal draw downs, setting up accounts receivable invoices, and high accuracy and timely recording of deposits daily.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
  • Professional level work experience recording financial activity in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, and statutory accounting requirements
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Excel at an intermediate level, database, and other related application
OTHER COMPETENCIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound and well-informed decisions
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated competencies in identifying and analyzing problems
